Easy Potato Side Dish is a creamy, flavorful side made with tender potatoes, butter, and optional cheese, perfect for everyday meals or holidays.

Ingredients

2 pounds Yukon Gold or red potatoes, peeled and cubed
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup milk or cream
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
1/4 cup cooked bacon bits (optional)
1/4 cup finely chopped green onions (optional)

Instructions

  • Boil peeled, cubed potatoes in salted water until tender, 12–15 minutes. Drain.
  • Melt butter and mix with milk, salt, pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Stir potatoes with the butter mixture until creamy.
  • Fold in cheese if using, and sprinkle remaining cheese on top.
  • Add optional ingredients like parsley, bacon, or green onions.
  • Serve immediately while warm.

Notes

Can use Russet potatoes, vegan alternatives, or roasted preparation. Optionally broil cheese topping for a golden finish.
