Soft and fluffy garlic butter dinner rolls made with simple pantry ingredients — no mixer needed. Perfect for weeknights, holidays, or any comforting meal.
3 ½ cups all-purpose flour
2 ¼ tsp active dry yeast
1 cup warm milk or water
2 tbsp granulated sugar
1 tsp salt
¼ cup melted butter or olive oil
1 large egg (optional)
2 tbsp butter, for brushing
Garlic Butter Topping:
3 tbsp unsalted butter
2 garlic cloves, finely minced
1 tbsp chopped parsley or chives
In a large bowl, mix warm milk/water with sugar and yeast. Let it sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
Stir in melted butter, salt, and egg if using.
Gradually mix in flour, stirring with a spoon until a shaggy dough forms. Knead by hand for 8–10 minutes until smooth.
Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 60–90 minutes until doubled.
Punch down dough, divide into 12 pieces, and shape into balls.
Place in greased 9×13-inch dish, cover, and rise again for 30–45 minutes.
Preheat oven to 375°F. Bake for 18–22 minutes or until golden.
Melt butter in a small pan, add garlic and parsley. Brush over hot rolls.
Serve warm.
Make ahead by refrigerating dough after first rise. Add cheese or fresh herbs for variation. Rolls can be frozen baked or unbaked.
