Crockpot Butter Chicken with tender chicken slow-cooked in a creamy tomato butter sauce with warm Indian spices, served with rice or naan.

Ingredients

2 pounds chicken thighs or breasts
3 tablespoons butter
1 onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic
1 tablespoon ginger
1 can tomato puree
1/2 cup yogurt
3/4 cup heavy cream
Spices: garam masala, cumin, paprika, turmeric, chili powder
Salt and pepper
Chicken broth
Cilantro
Rice or naan

Instructions

  • Add onion, garlic, and ginger to slow cooker.
  • Place chicken on top.
  • Mix tomato, yogurt, broth, and spices; pour over chicken.
  • Add butter pieces on top.
  • Cook on low 6–7 hours or high 3–4 hours.
  • Shred chicken and return to sauce.
  • Stir in cream and cook 15–20 minutes more.
  • Garnish with cilantro and serve.

Notes

Adjust spice level as desired. Thighs give richer texture. Add vegetables near end if desired.
