Ingredients

1 cup unsalted butter
8 ounces semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
3/4 cup brown sugar, packed
4 large eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup chocolate chips or chunks
1/2 cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
1 tablespoon espresso powder (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch pan with parchment paper.
  • Melt butter and chocolate together in a saucepan, stirring until smooth. Cool slightly.
  • Whisk together sugars and eggs until pale, then fold in vanilla and melted chocolate mixture.
  • Sift and fold in flour, cocoa, salt, and baking powder until just combined.
  • Add chocolate chips and nuts, if using.
  • Pour batter into pan, smooth top, and bake 35–40 minutes, rotating halfway.
  • Cool 20 minutes before slicing.

Notes

Can be customized with caramel, peanut butter, or different chocolate types; adjust baking time for fudgier or thicker brownies.
